pho's 21st + tp design show

Finally, Phoebe has officially graduated from TP design school (: We met a few days ago to visit her booth at the TP Design Show at Vivocity, as well as hold a super duper early 21st birthday celebration for the dear girl (:

Gonna spend some time today to introduce her works for the FYP (Final Year Project). If you do like her works, please contact her with the information provided later okay! Her FYP's style is very "her". So if you like it, I believe she can produce even more satisfying works for you (:

This is phoebe at her booth! (why look so awkard?!) hahaha.

These are just some of the collaterals she came up with. A collection of 3 books to help you "uplift your life" (:

And here are just a few more excerpts! All these excerpts are taken off www.cargocollective.com/phoebelow Do visit her webpage for her other works!

So.. upon looking at her illustrations, do you feel "uplift-ed"?? heh! but these illustrations are so pretty, aren't they? I'm definitely gonna take some time off to learn all these from the photoshop-pros. making pretty things makes you feel pretty too, you know? (:

Then, we had dinner at Earl's Swensons. Yay for free flow salad buffet!

Because pho had booth duty, she left before the dinner ended, which bought us some time to prepare her birthday tart, from fruit paradise, and her present (:

And here's phoebe (looking slightly awkward again!) with her birthday tart. its about 2 weeks before her actual birthday, but oh well, better early than late right! especially when we are all busy during her birthday period.

happy bananas~ dont know why but this picture just makes me feel so happy (: favourite friends for a long long time already!
gonna end off with a group photo!

once again, if you like phoebe's works and wish to contact her, her contact details are as follows:

breakfast with love

(edited: added a food review below)

breakfast was a simple affair at strictly pancakes! After oh-so-long, we FINALLY held a successful outing to celebrate yap's belated birthday! ok, it wasn't a birthday-cake-with-candles kind of celebration. it was one of those more heartwarming catch-up sessions where we just laugh at each other and stuff. well, it's really been a long time. 8 years of friendship, and running. growing up together, there was definitely lots of fond memories to relate to together and lots of old joke to crack (:

decided to try some photoshop actions for this post. its surprisingly simply to apply these actions! and to think i always thought it took a lot of effort to achieve these effects. now i know (: 1st attempt at actions, dont laugh if it sucks!

jmi's creation
SORRY PHO! somehow i dont have your photo!
love the presentation!
i love this photo! the smiles are priceless (: anyway, the nutella shake here is yummy! but an entire cup may be too much /: share with your friends! CARING IS SHARING <3
well, i must say, their breakfast menu was not as varied as i expected. well, i was excited to try the butter prawn pancakes (savory pancakes), which my friend highly raved about, but turns out that wasn't in the breakfast menu. there were about 4 different breakfast sets (kind of little isn't it?). here are just some of what we tried.

Berry Berry Fantastic!
Hawaiian!

All American

ending off with a picture of my favourite girls <3 LETS GO OUT SOON! and we must overcome the inertia to plan our holidays, really! heh!

psssst: i know the photoshopped photos did no justice to how yummy the food actually was. so, here are the original shots and a little food review (: I'm not some food gourmet, so please simply use my opinions as a reference (: we all have different taste buds u know (:

In order of my favourite to least favourite (for Breakfast set only):

to me, Berry Berry Fantastic, was indeed, Berry Berry Fantastic. I always had a soft spot for fruity pancakes with yogurt. This version uses condensed/carnation milk instead of yogurt. While it's sweet and really tasty, it is kind of fattening /: May not be something for the health conscious lot. Within the stack of pancakes, the 2nd and 3rd layer were made with Marmalade, which came as a little surprise. Overall, I really enjoyed the blend of fruits with milk, together with their fluffy pancakes.

All American was, really an American breakfast (as its name suggests). This dish comes with sausages, tomatoes, bacon and quill egg (yes, that's why the egg is so small. we all thought the chef at the rest of the egg white at 1st!). A savory dish, in contrast to Berry Berry Fantastic. The sausage was yummy but i felt that the bacon was slightly too salty. While I loved the grill tomatoes, it might have been a lot yummier to lace it with a layer of melted cheese heh! This combination reminds me a lot of MacDonald's Breakfast Deluxe set, but its got yummier sides and the pancakes are awesome (:

Hawaiian, probably the least fantastic of the lot. The bacon is the same as the All American. Instead of quill's egg, this has got the normal chicken egg and pineapple bits. As someone who doesn't like pinapples, this dish is a lot plainer than the above. If you're not a fan of pineapples, might as well spend the money on the All American.

The coolest thing about Strictly Pancakes is that they offer 4 different types of butter to complement your pancakes: Unsalted, Salted, Garlic and Herbs and Rum and Raisins. My personal favourite is still the Unsalted butter, as I felt that it complemented the taste of the pancakes. Garlic and Herbs is the house recommendation. It really tastes not bad, and complements savoury pancakes pretty well. Rum and Raisin was an interesting experience, and I felt it went pretty well with the sweet pancakes. Salted butter was probably the least favourite as it was slightly too salty (especially when combined with the savoury dishes).

Each breakfast set came with a drink (worth $4), choice of a coffee or tea. They have a little selection of the type of coffee and tea you would like to go with your meal. If not, you can simply top up to change the coffee/tea to another beverage on the menu, which was what we did for the Nutella Shake. The English Breakfast Tea was named the Lonely Tea, as all of us were so excited about the coffee and nutella shake, we totally left it aside and forgot about it! The tea was quite fragrant, but slightly diluted. The Chilled Brew Coffee was really aromatic! Not too bitter, and the aroma lingers in your mouth after drinking. TWO THUMBS UP. And the Nutella Shake is pretty awesome too. It really rich and tastes more like melted ice cream, rather than a milk based drink. It's laced with oreo bits YUMTUMS! I have no idea how this compares to the one at EWF (Everything with Fries). Tell you again when I next visit EWF (:

Last but not the least, the pancakes!! Pancakes were fluffy and slightly moist, not too buttery and really soft (: I really enjoyed it! Probably one of the best pancakes I've eaten.

happy birthday suaku

it was suaku shawn's 22nd birthday! YAY! so... we decided to surprise him (ok maybe its not a very surprising surprise) with a simple birthday lunch! we met like 1 hour before our supposed meeting time to grab him a little present from Tampines 1, before heading to Bakerzin for lunch!

Guess the most hilarious part came when we were whassaping him, pretending that we were all on our way there and complaining about him being late, when we were actually sitting inside Bakerzin already! Suaku shawn really believed that all of us were early! (i mean seriously, how could it be that jieling is earlier than he is! hahaha!)

tried different effects on this post as i thought i should just try to make things a little more interesting here (: too bad if it sucks!

and our food arrived (:

and ter, we have never forgotten you (:

birthday girls!

Today was another day out with the Starhub gang (: we decided to try this new "xiaolongbao buffet" ($16.80++, comes up to about $19.80 per person). Ok, numerical value wise, it may not seem cheap, but considering that they offer food items like xiaolongbao and wasabi prawns in their buffet menu... it does seem quite a deal isn't it? Furthermore, its cheaper than the Crystal Jade XiaoLongBao buffet over at Holland V. So why not?? (:

Anyway, this restaurant is called Nanxiang Steamed Bun Restaurant, which apparently is a culinary icon over at Shanghai (like how DingTaiFeng is legendary in Taiwan). So far, the only outlet that seem to offer this buffet is the one at City Square Mall, right above Farrer Park MRT (:

here's the buffet menu, you can check it out (:
think i need to grow my fringe, even jasper's is longer than mine now. >:(
this is their interior design. a pity i forgot to take more shots ):
it was FOOD GLORIOUS FOOD! check out some of the dishes we ate!
steamed egg with clams which was YUMMSSSS
a cold dish: poacked chicken something... hahaha.
cold dish as well: beancurd with century egg
homemade style beancurd which was quite tasty too! comes with thai sweet chilli and mayo!
shanghai fried rice and it was yums too! haha pity we didnt try the other rice and noodles ):
and now, here are the mains! XIAO LONG BAO!! teehee! compared to the Crystal Jade's Xiao Long Baos, this one's skin (only at the opening) is slightly thicker than normal. But nevertheless, there is A LOT of soup within each XLB (Y) and the meat is rather tasty! they have 3 types of XLB, and yes we tried all three- pork, pork and vegetable and mushroom! the mushroom XLB is probably the most interesting of the lot! the soup tastes like mushroom broth and i thought it was really quite yummy! you probably can only get it over here! haha
PORK XIAOLONGBAO!
MUSHROOM XIAOLONGBAO
wasabi prawns! and i am surprised at the quality. it was really nice i must say!
and these are barely a quarter of what we ate. 5 of us ate $400 worth of food (yes, crazy!) and we were sooo bloated. We ended up watching a movie to chill and let the food settle.

The sneaky boys planned to celebrate me and jieling's birthday and they secretly (and it was quite a failed attempt) got us a cake each! (: THANK YOU GUYS! i know that the whole mission is quite fail, but its the thought that counts!
jieling and her chocolate cake! YUMS!
me and my cheesecake! YUMS!
they asked me to pose for a wishing shot, AND SHAWN U ARE DAMN RETARDED.
Terence is gonna leave for USA in like 3 weeks time. AWWWW /: it will be like another year or so till we see him again. While we will continue having uber fun outings without him (oops!), he will truly be missed when he's gone. SO TER, COME BACK FOR ME AND JIELING'S 21ST BDAY!!
